What I love: Ladies being awesome. Complex characters. Stories that examine our preconceived notions. Guys loving and respecting ladies because of their strength and not despite it. Slice of life stories, clever crossovers, unique perspectives on canon events, characters working together to solve problems. If you like my fandoms, you probably like some of these things too!

What I don’t love: Non-con/gratuitous violence/torture/super-kinky porn. AUs with no connection to canon. Undeserved happy endings (I like happy stories, but not when it seems forced or

If you want more direction, these are some things I’d love to read about:

12 Dancing Princesses (Fairy Tale) - Depending on the story, the oldest or youngest sister gets the hero and the happy ending. What about the other 11? Do any of them miss the dancing or the world under the palace? Do they have PTSD? Does one of them run off and abandon royalty altogether? I'd love any story that gives them more than just a brief mention or a footnote.

Daria - I’d love to see her interact with the world as an adult. Is she still as bitter and cynical, or has she softened a bit? What is she doing with her life? Does she still talk to Jane? What did Quinn do after high school (I always envisioned her running for Congress, but that’s just me)? What about the Fashion Club? Really anything about these ladies as adults would be amazing.

The Wire - Naymond Brice - What is Namond up to these days? We saw him in a round of debate, but I'd love to see him grown up and trying to help in his own way. Social work maybe? Or does he go into politics and run into an older Nerese working the system for all it's worth? Does he ever see Randy, Duquan, Zenobia, Crystal, etc. again? Any slice of their future would be awesome.

October Daye Series - The Luidaeg or Marcia - A day in the life of the Luidaeg. I’d love to see the great sea witch deal with something horrifyingly normal - a census official whose persistence breaks through don’t-look-here spells or something else from the boring human world. I've always been
intrigued by Marcia's backstory as well.

Night Circus - Anything, anything, anything about Poppet.

Crown Duel - Poor Elenet. She does her part for the revolution and then goes quietly home to run her lands with a broken heart. What does she do next?

Dresden Files - Murphy and Molly are both strong women, but in totally different ways. I’d love to see them butt heads over a situation or interact with Murphy’s mother. Bonus points for Dresden/Thomas/Marcone/etc. getting the hell out of the way once they get into it.

Night Circus - Anything, anything, anything about Poppet.

Tricksters - Dove as Queen! How does she deal with the day to day? Does she ever resent Aly and the Rakat for putting her at the front of the revolution? Where is Taybur these days?

Seriously. 3 of my favorite fandoms and 1 that I will definitely have to check out. I'm ridiculously excited.

Bourne rewatch tonight. I forgot Karl Urban was in the second one. He's so tiny and young! Also gorgeous, but that's a given.

Today's running around included a visit with a well known pop artist to a strange, high-profile military offshoot of a public high school.

When we got here, half the parking lot was blocked off for mayoral vehicles, since our ”beloved” mayor is also visiting today. Because my giant metropolis is a small town at heart, the cop in charge of the scene is a family friend (last year I spent a week talking his super Catholic wife off a ledge when her daughter came out of the closet).

The cops moved their suv over to let us park, and the visiting artist, who really should have known better, spent 15 minutes trying to convince the mayor's drivers and security people to accept copies of his book and posters on the mayor's behalf.

There's been a great deal of controversy about this school that's filtered into my head over the years, and it's staring me in the face today. Families in this neighborhood who don't have the money for private school have to decide if military indoctrination is a price they're willing to pay for a decent education. The naval academy has something like ten times the funds per student that they have in the rest of the building.

So now I'm watching a program about the value of art in everyday life presented to teens in uniforms with medals and shoulder braids. Yesterday's program was at a giant public school with a severe special needs. That was better.

Still finding Wil Wheaton strangely sexy on Eureka. Does anyone else have this problem?
